Three Word Wednesday: A snippet of 1920’s urban fantasy, perhaps?

If we’re being honest, I don’t know what this is, or even who the characters might be!

The only thing I know is that I’ve loved the idea of doing urban fantasy set in 1920’s for a good while now, and somehow this week’s prompts at Three Word Wednesday (growl, hype, and justify) reminded me of that, and then this happened. :)

Who knows, maybe it’ll cooperate and I’ll get a chance to flesh it out!

Thunder clashed and rolled and growled outside, and he imagined that the flashes of light reflecting from her beaded skirt were lightning coursing down her legs.

He had no patience for most of the hyped-up performers of the day, nor even for the over-crowded speakeasies in which they performed; but she, he thought, was potentially different.

Potentially interesting.

There was a matching glint to her eyes beneath her dark curls and kohl, and she danced amidst this shadow-play.

He wondered if this one might have any other knowledge of shadows, as well, and justified his fixation with his need to be constantly on his guard.

  1. Nice. I love your imagery, especially of the lightning coursing down her legs. Good internal dialogue as well. I, too, saw a scene rather than a poetic imagery from these three words this week, one that pulled me in and seems to suggest something longer. I hope you keep this and build it into the entirety that it is singing to you.
